Congress passes act marking first Monday of September as federal holiday
On June 28,1894, Congress passed an act marking the first Monday of September as the federal holiday Labor Day. It was officially signed into law six days later by President Grover Cleveland.
Labor Day is a national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the country. And, is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of those workers.
For most Americans, Labor Day marks the end of summer. A time when vacations are over. A time when children are returning to school. A time when families sink back into familiar routines.
Labor Day weekend is a time when we all come together with family and friends to enjoy the last of those warm summer days. We mark the end of summer with many different pursuits: reunions, trips, camping, boating, and of course cookouts with those burgers on the grill.
