Cumberland Caverns Live Welcomes Son Volt – September 9

Cumberland Caverns Live Welcomes Son Volt

Cumberland Caverns Live Welcomes Son Volt

Performing in the World-Famous Volcano Room on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 3 PM (CST)

Cumberland Caverns Live is excited to announce that Son Volt is making a stop at the World-Famous Volcano Room on Sunday, September 9! Tickets go on sale Friday, June 8th at 10 AM (CST).

Led by the songwriting and vocals of Jay Farrar, Son Volt was one of the most instrumental and influential bands in launching the Alt-Country movement of the 1990’s. A movement that was the precursor to what is now widely referred to as Americana. Son Volt’s acclaimed 1995 debut “Trace” was recently reissued in a special 20th Anniversary Edition.

The band’s latest album “Notes of Blue” was released in February of last year, and Jay spoke to Rolling Stone about the album’s blues inspirations. Jay said,

“Blues is such a foundational element in early country music. Hank Williams learned from a blues musician. My father played Hank Williams songs and I learned to play music from him. So it’s all part of a nice continuum.”

Todd Snider With Special Guest, Elizabeth Cook – Aug. 4

Todd Snider With Elizabeth Cook at Cumberland Caverns Live

Cumberland Caverns Live Welcomes Todd Snider with special guest, Elizabeth Cook

Performing in the World-Famous Volcano Room on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 3 p.m.

East Nashville Singer/Songwriter Todd Snider is announcing some new dates for his current tour, including a stop in the World Famous Volcano Room on Saturday, August 4th at 3 p.m. CST. Elizabeth Cook will open up the show.

“On this tour, I am coming to town with nothing but my guitar and stories like the old days. You know…pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little cheap cheap cheap talk a lot pick a little more. And not to brag, but I also wrote a book that everybody loves so I am an author now. plus I play everywhere, pretty much all the time everybody shows up and they pretty much always love it.”

Todd Snider

Elizabeth Cook – “Exodus of Venus”

Elizabeth Cook didn’t quite know what she was doing. But she knew there were songs, and they had to get out. Six years since her critically acclaimed Welder, as well as much personal tumult, there were songs that needed to be born.

“If anything, (Exodus) is a pledge of allegiance for the bad girls and the Homecoming Queens who got caught in a scandal. It’s a bill of rights and a testimony for those good girls who got away with more than they should have. I’m slow, and getting slower,” laughs the lanky blond, unapologetically. “I’m taking my time, really drilling down. There were nine versions of ‘Methadone Blues.’ I’ve never done that before. I love that entrenchment and dedication – and I wasn’t going to do any less than what needed to be done.”

From Dexter Green’s (also the album’s producer) opening electric guitar, equal parts foreboding and fraught, “Exodus of Venus” hurls a churlish witness to erotic upheaval and the drives that subsume our best notions. “Exodus” is an exhortation of sexual surrender that pushes past the brink of reason.

For fans of the Florida-born’n’raised Cook, a Grand Ole Opry regular, SiriusXM Outlaw Country hostess and David Letterman favorite, Exodus of Venus will be something of a shock. If she maintains the tang of her drawl, what emerges – beyond Cook’s always vibrant and vivid sense of detail – is a song cycle soaked in turpentine, musk and honey.

We are so pumped to share these acoustic sessions with our amazingly supportive fans!”

Their single “She’s With Me” has an “infectious bluegrass-pop sound” (Billboard) and is currently in the Top 10 on the country radio airplay charts and marks High Valley’s first entry into the Billboard Hot 100 in addition to tallying over 29 million on demand streams.

The Secret Sisters with special guest, Lilly Hiatt – April 14

The Secret Sisters with Lilly Hiatt at Cumberland Caverns Live

Cumberland Caverns Live Welcomes The Secret Sisters with special guest, Lilly Hiatt

Performing in the World-Famous Volcano Room on Saturday, April 14th at 1 p.m.

Join The Secret Sisters, with special guest Lilly Hiatt on Saturday, April 14 in the World Famous Volcano Room! Tickets are on sale now and are going fast. Make your plans today to join us!

The Secret Sisters

Over the past few years, The Secret Sisters have been extremely busy swimming upstream. They’ve toured with Bob Dylan. They lost their label and they filed for bankruptcy. And at one point, they almost gave up music for cleaning houses. From that experience and struggle came their third LP, You Don’t Own Me Anymore, which is produced by Brandi Carlile.

“We are more proud of these songs than we have ever been,” says Laura. “Some of the songs are a little more cryptic, but some of them are very pointed and honest and direct. And we had to let those songs happen. We had to let ourselves be angry again, and bring up things we wanted to forget.”

Lilly Hiatt

The Secret Sisters with Lilly Hiatt at Cumberland Caverns Live

Lilly Hiatt’s latest album Trinity Lane was produced by Michael Trent of Shovels & Rope and gets the name from the East Nashville address where Lilly wrote the album after a break-up. Hiatt says,

“Love will take you to the darkest places but also the most honest places if you let it. Learning how to love myself is something I’ve always been lousy with, and I spent some time on that. I thought about my sobriety, what that means to me, the struggles I’d had throughout the years, since I was a 27-year-old and hung up my toxic drinking habit. I thought about my mother, who took her own life when I was a baby, not far from my age at 30 years old, and I related to her more than ever. As you can see, there was plenty of time spent on my own. I found power in being by myself.”

Lilly’s love of the ‘90s alt-rock she was raised on continues to shine through on Trinity Lane in the distressed guitars and urgent backbeats. She cites the Pixies, Breeders, Dinosaur Jr., and her favorite, Pearl Jam as influences, but there is also something distinctly Americana lurking in the songs. She continues,

“After a while, I had all these songs to play, and wanted to share them. I wanted to get out of town to get some distance from everything, so after an ongoing conversation with Michael Trent, I took my band to Johns Island, SC and we holed up for a few weeks. I poured my heart out, and trusted them with it, and these guys gave it right back. I think we all understood what it’s like to question home, intention, demons, love…I think most people understand that.”

Live Music Returned To The World Famous Volcano Room With Front Country & Jon Stickley Trio

Front Country & Jon Stickley Trio Opened The New Cumberland Caverns Live Concert Series On Feb. 3

The original musical adventure 333 feet below returned for the New Cumberland Caverns Live series! On February 3, Cumberland Caverns welcomed Front Country and Jon Stickley Trio in the World Famous Volcano Room. It was an incredible start to the 2018 concert season!

Front Country

Front Country hails from the west coast and was recently named one of the “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know” in Rolling Stone Magazine. Lead singer Melody Walker won best female vocalist in 2016’s International Bluegrass Music Association “Momentum Awards” for up-and-coming acts. She also wrote eight of the 12 songs on Front Country’s current album, Other Love Songs.

Jon Stickley Trio

“I am extremely excited to play the Cumberland Caverns… I’ll never forget visiting there years ago. You walk into a hole in the ground, down a long, winding cavernous hallway of stone amongst stalactites, stalagmites, and all the other strange underground oddities and mysterious wonders. Just when you think you’ve gone too far, the cave opens up into an enormous, hidden amphitheater with sound like you’ve never heard before. When we started the Trio, it was one of the first venues on our bucket list, and I absolutely cannot wait to hear our music bounce off the rocks and ring through the caves!”
